(Qatar): Qatar has threatened to withdraw from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Council by specifying conditions for Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia. Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.
Qatar Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani sent a letter to GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, imposing conditions on his country for not withdrawing from the GCC. Prince Al Thani said the prince's country would leave for three days for Arab countries around the Gulf to lift sanctions from Qatar and offer compensation to Qatar's political and economic losses. By the end of this deadline, Qatar will officially announce its departure from the GCC.
Last month, Saudi Arabia, Amir, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt launched 13 demands on Qatar, including the closure of Al-Jazeera, halting financial subsidies and supporting terrorism, and reducing ties with Iran. Iran is the primary condition to stop their pressure. However, the four countries have vowed to take further political, economic and legal measures to tighten pressure on Qatar after Doha has refused to comply with these demands.
It is estimated that Saudi Arabia, Emirates, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain may attempt to kick Qatar from the six-member GCC or to cancel Qatar membership in the Arab League.
