The death toll in the floods in Japan has risen to 21



Floods caused by unprecedented heavy rains over the past 40 years in southern Japan's Kyushu have left 21 people dead and more than 20 remain missing, the localities of which have been flooded and caused landslides. Xinhua reported on Monday, July 10, 2017.

Self-defense forces, along with more than 2,000 search and rescue agencies, are continuing their operations to Monday in Fukuoka and Oita Prefecture, which is located on Kyushu, as more than 1,700 people remain in temporary shelters. Meanwhile, Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said the government would soon cooperate with local authorities to assess the extent of damage and provide assistance to the victims.

According to Japan's Ministry of Land and Transport, 41 landslides and floods have hit 38 areas of Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Oita, including the province of Saga.
